Questions about becoming a financial advisor

Can I become a financial advisor part-time?

Yes. You can start part-time and keep your current job while you get licensed, train, and build your first clients. You move to full-time when you're ready. The registrations, supervision, platform, and support are the same as for any other affiliated advisor.

Do I need a finance degree?

No. What matters most is caring about people, being willing to learn, and doing simple things consistently. The firm sponsors your exams and trains you on the rest.

What exams do I need to become a financial advisor?

You start with the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam. Then you take the license exams for the business you'll do: securities, advisory, or both. Anyone 18 or older can take the SIE without a sponsor. The firm sponsors the license exams your role needs, and advisortrain.com has free prep with more than 2,500 practice questions.

How long does it take to become a financial advisor?

It depends on how quickly you pass your exams and complete your registrations. Studying part-time, you set the pace. Your first conversation covers a realistic timeline for your situation.

What does it cost to become a financial advisor?

Expect exam fees, state registration fees, errors and omissions insurance, and some marketing. The amounts vary by state and by the licenses your business needs. We walk through your exact costs before you commit to anything.

Can a financial advisor work from home?

Many advisors run their practice from home or a small office. The platform, client portal, and secure messaging work from anywhere, subject to the firm's supervision and registration requirements for where you work.

Will I have support when I'm new?

Yes. You join a community of advisors, from people who recently started to seasoned pros, with the home office behind you, and the platform handles the operational work so you can focus on learning the craft and serving clients.
